Sinaia Monastery, dubbed the “Cathedral of the Carpathians”, located in an enchanting natural setting, dating from the seventeenth century and represents the historical identity of the city, the first building on the territory. Sinaia Monastery founder Mihail Cantacuzino who along with his mother and his sister Elena Stanca, make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Jerusalem, Nazareth, etc..), Reaching this opportunity to Mount Sinai where he prayed to St. Catherine’s Monastery. Impressed by what he saw, he decided to return home as Romanian, Romanian mountains to build and worship of Mary, a mănănăstire to bear the name of Mount Sinai and this is the Sinaia Monastery.
The old church is built in the style brâncovenesc , Romanian Land characteristic architecture style named after Constantin Brancoveanu ( martyred in Constantinople by the Turks in 1714) . This style of Baroque influence , has the features carved stone columns and decorated with floral and plant ( lily flower , oak leaf , etc. . ) . Generally Orthodox churches are made up of : the narthex , nave and altar , and them add style brâncovenesc three in the fourth form of open rooms supported by columns , pridvorul.Deosebit important is the portal of the church which is carved , representing the right Moses with the Tablets of the Law , and left his brother Aaron with his rod budded .
In the middle of the portal is the emblem of the founding family – Cantacuzino family , two-headed eagle claw marks related to imperial power : the scepter and cross. Painting the porch and the nave is the original , made by Pārvu Mutu Painter ‘s favorite painter Cantacuzino .
Porch dome is painted with scenes from the life of Saint Catherine ( patron of the monastery at Mount Sinai ), from Saint George ( patron Moldova and the military ) and Saint Dumitru ( patron Romanian Country ) . The narthex is dominated by votive painting depicting the founder of the Monastery , Mihail Cantacuzino , surrounded by eighteen children ( many of whom are adopted), the first and second wife and other family members Cantacuzino , since Neagoe ( 1512-1521) , and Radu Serban Constantin Serban Cantacuzino Constantine , Prince Serban Cantacuzino ( painted with a crown on his head and the cross in hand as the book has already gone to the sanctuary ) , and others.
